Roses are red, and violets are blue…

One day we’ll cruise down Blood Gulch avenue…

Alright, so I stealth-released my first version of Blood Gulch, a map from Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo Wars, last night in BrawlVault. It looks like 14 of you snagged it early. All 14 of you win a cookie.

The stage is over 9000 Online Training, so I included a link to some .rels in the download to use. However, I gave the link to the Final Destination .rels. Whoops. To find the correct .rels, snoop around this post.

There are a number of issues to fix for version 2:

  • Lighting is a tad dark (easy fix)
  • Slight tearing in sky texture (easy fix)
  • Occasionally obscured camera (I don’t even know if this can be fixed)
  • Transparent textures use texture btl012_06 to create random brown boxes (I need help on this one)

So yeah. If you have any solutions to the latter two, speak up. The don’t effect play that much, unless you look too much into it. You can just imagine the brown boxes are random crates, and the camera only occasionally flickers through the back wall. But they are annoyances that keep the stage looking as good as it does in BrawlBox. Oh well.

❤ Squid

(Also, credit to fireking for fixing the stage and FairKnight for importing the original ToS stage “Grassland Canyon”. You each get 3 cookies.)

Roses are red, violets are blue,
not caring about Halo I do.

    …eh, still nice hack.

Who do you think you are, Yoda? 😛

  4. 4 calamitasx 06/06/2010 at 12:25 PM

    Awesome, that’s what I think.

  5. 5 razanak7 06/06/2010 at 12:31 PM

    Surprisingly accurate.

is this just a flat stage? it looks like it, i like the idea but if it’s flat i have enough of those

  7. 7 shadowsquid86 06/06/2010 at 12:35 PM

Yeah, it’s just one stretch of land. Moving the battle up to the cliffs might be a possibility for future releases if I can figure out how.

    Fancy fancy stage.

  9. 9 Jack H. 06/06/2010 at 12:41 PM

    Agreed with Roo. =)

Argh, wifi room you say??? xD

    Check this please

Please, everyone, upgrade your wifi room stages so we are not using wifi room rel files anymore. Final Destination is just better, and it takes almost the same space on the SD, and no time to convert them ^^U

  11. 11 Mewtwo2000 06/06/2010 at 12:53 PM

Also, try this file, replace the one in your stage with this one and see if the textures are working better.

They were brown because of texture type problems. Check the ‘decaltexture’ property in each texture inside materials1 when you have palleted textures in your stages ^^U

    The file

  13. 13 NecroMasterX 06/06/2010 at 1:34 PM

    This will make shadowsnake happy.

  14. 14 SMT_Xero 06/06/2010 at 2:00 PM

ehhhhhhh its not that close to blood Gulch. but its got the general idea.

  15. 15 owned645 06/06/2010 at 4:26 PM

    I agree with Xero

    But its still good.

I have to find my wii, download this map, and brawl like I’ve never brawled before. =D

  18. 18 shadowsquid86 06/06/2010 at 5:18 PM

The main thing is the lighting. The textures are actually lighter than that in BrawlBox.

  19. 19 Mewtwo2000 06/06/2010 at 5:35 PM

    @shadowsquid86: Try this

And take a look to the last brawlib in smashboards, it allows you to change the lighting in an easy way

  20. 20 thanyou 06/06/2010 at 5:39 PM

Oh look, a retextured Tos2 stage. How grand.

  21. 21 The Right Honorable Judge Wallace P. Grindstump 06/06/2010 at 6:05 PM

As I already told you, This is the best stage hack I’ve ever seen. If only someone could import the actual Blood Gulch from the PC version of Halo.

  22. 22 shadowsquid86 06/06/2010 at 6:11 PM

It’s already easy to easy to change the lighting. Don’t you just need to swap the scene data, or something? I’ve done it without issues in the past.

  23. 23 Mewtwo2000 06/06/2010 at 6:28 PM

You can swap, but you can customize too. I make it with my stages, I can change the color and the intensity of the lights, if it’s too dark, just make it brighter.

I do it by hex editing, but the last brawlib allows you to make it with brawlbox directly. Go to the scenedata and find lights(NW4R) to edit B1, B2 and B3 values.

  24. 24 shadowsquid86 06/06/2010 at 10:11 PM

That’s pretty cool, I guess. So for version 2:

    -New lighting
    -Texture fixes
    -Final Destination

I don’t really think there’s a reasonable solution to the camera issues.

hew mewtwo. sorry to spam this blog but for some reason I cannot ppost on kcmm. i was just wondering if the kongo jungle they just released works for pal and if he means hyrule temple

  26. 26 Mewtwo2000 06/07/2010 at 3:30 AM

Don’t know if it works for pal, but it should do it. And yeah, it’s meant to be placed over melee’s zelda stage, hyrule temple 😛

  27. 27 Random 06/07/2010 at 5:05 PM

cant you please port it over something crappy, I LOVE TEMPLE!!

  28. 28 FairKnight 06/07/2010 at 7:44 PM

I had the same texture problems too mate but ah well Lol anyways it looks amazing, you did such a good job that I didnt even realize it was grassland canyons until you credited me in BrawlVault, I love how it looks amazing job mate ^^

  29. 29 Mewtwo2000 06/07/2010 at 7:57 PM

    @ FairKnight

Take the file I posted earlier and you will get a fixed model for your stage too xD

I have ported to FD for now xD

And it’s untested because I have no wii right now xD

    Here is it ^^U

Use a FD rel file to make it work in other stages for now ^^U

  30. 30 ShadowSnake 06/11/2010 at 1:47 AM
