Just to prove that I’m still alive

Hey everyone, cuckoos here. Now, as it seems, Dantarion is continuing his work on the spectacular Clone Engine once again. After hearing the news, I had remembered something of great importance; My good friend Pik had showed me progress of a Professor Layton model the other day. So I thought that using this model, I could be the first in the brawl hacking community to create a perfectly balanced, perfectly reasonable-to-be-included, and basically, a brand new character in it’s entirety. This character is, in fact, Professor Layton.

Here is the model, in all of it’s glory:

Neutral Attack Combo – Layton lunges forward with his fencing sword twice.
Side Attack – Layton performs a wider lunge.
Up Attack – Layton sways his sword upwards quickly. Similar to Marth’s Up Attack.
Down Attack – Marth’s crouch attack, more or less.
Dash Attack – Thrusts forward with his sword.
Neutral Aerial Attack – Does a side-kick in mid-air.
Aerial Forward Attack – Slices vertically through the air. Similar to Marth’s Aerial Forward.
Aerial Back Attack – Turns around, and attacks the opponent with a back-handed slap.
Aerial Up Attack – Layton sways his sword upwards quickly mid-air.
Aerial Down Attack – Layton does a mid-air axe kick in the direction he’s facing. Spikes the opponent.
Side Smash – Spins around twice, whilst slightly slanted, his sword extruding.
Up Smash – Powerfully slashes twice above his head in an “X” pattern (right-diagonal and left-diagonal slices)
Down Smash – Jumps only slightly off of the ground and lands, creating two stars that appear on the two sides of him. These stars do damage.

-Cuckoos [Animations, PSA work]
-Pik [Providing the model]
-Snoopy [Glitch fixing, character porting]
-Weyard [Animations, PSA work]

What we have done:
-Finished the Layton model
-Fixed the walking glitch
-Gave him a proper shield
-Fixed the item holding glitch
-Ported over Snake

What we need to do:

I can’t stress this enough! If you’re interested in animating or helping with the PSA, please leave a comment saying so.

So…. I think Its about time I start playing those games. And if he does become a character, I’ll be one of the first to grab.

My sis would absolutely LOVE this.
Not too sure of the smile, though. Thinner? I dunno. He’s a pretty serious chap, that Layton.

souands like a lot of barrowed animations

    @ imObvioslycrazy
Actually, we’re only going to use maybe 3-4 borrowed animations for the moves, but we’re going to have to borrow generic run and walk animations for the rest.

this is something I’ve wanted since brawl came out and been waiting for since the start of brawl hacking
thank you and please go through with this rather than leaving it abandoned half finished like most “new characters” are

    quick question
wouldnt his neutralA be better without the lunging aspect?
wouldnt a lunge make a better dash attack than a stab? stab seems like it’d be better suited for a ftilt
dair is weird since it would require you to use another move to turn around, unless you can make it possible to turn it like neutralBs

it also lacks specials, which I hope will be awesome and puzzle/tea related

…Professor Layton is perfectly reasonable character to be included in Brawl? Also, is it really fair to say that he’s a new character in its entirety when he has so many Marth-esque moves?

I’m not having a go at you or anything, it’s just that, I find P. Lay an odd character to be in a beat-’em-up. Nevertheless, good luck with being the first team to actually complete a custom character!

Well, I really like the idea of including Layton, but this moveset seems sort of lackluster. A character from such a unique series should have a more creative moveset than just fencing and other typical melee moves.

    @ Mewcario
I believe that he’s a perfectly reasonable character. He’s a Nintendo character, and he’s done tons more fighting than characters such as Peach and ROB have.

And he only has three moves that are similar to Marth. :p

    @ Meh
In all honesty, incorporating Layton’s uniqueness (such as his puzzle-solving skills) into a moveset that is made to be smooth, and to actually stand a chance in competitive battles is really hard. We know that Layton is talented at fencing, so we’ve decided to incorporate his fencing attacks only into his A button attacks. His specials will take much creativity to pull off, but I assure you that you’ll see Layton’s uniqueness shine in those aspects.
